Today I joined that elite club of people that can swim 2.4 miles. That is the full Ironman swim course distance. Although this was in a pool, and only part of my training, it was the furthest swim I have had to date and I was happy to be armed with the knowledge that I can make it that far without sinking, spewing, crashing, flailing or drowning. (picture from cda ironman mass swim start)
I was kinda dreading this swim as it is a long time to swim it out. I got in the pool and as I was stretching I was a little intimidated by the distance that lay ahead of me. But....then I swam. I swam and swam and swam and then....I was done. Sweet!
The swim went by faster than I expected and I felt strong almost the enitre time. Don't get me wrong, there was deffinitely times where it did seem long, but I think that was only because I initially thought it would be. As the swim went on, I was acutally supried how quickly I was knocking out each 1000.
Day 97 Training Log- 4400 yard swim today = 2.4 miles folks. The swim was a 3 x 75 warm-up with the last 25 of each a kick. Then to the main swim, which was 4 x 1000. Polished it off with an easy 2 x 50 of 50 swim and 50 kick and then....done. Bonus: it was 75 and sunny today on the eastside which gave me an opportunity to grab onto a few more of those glorious golden sunshine rays. Tomorrow off to California for the day, but I have a secret plan to still get my workouts in....we'll see....stay tuned.
